One of the founders of the band of horns and drums of Jesús Cautivo de Málaga dies of coronavirus

The coronavirus has claimed a life this Thursday in the context of Holy Week in Malaga. José López García, one of the founders of the Jesús Cautivo bugle and drum band, has died at the age of 54 after spending almost two months in the intensive care unit of the Regional Hospital of Malaga. The news has caused a deep stir in the world of the city's bugle and drum bands, to which José, affectionately known as 'Pepín', was especially linked.

According to what Raúl Arribas, director of the band of cornets and drums of the Captive, pointed out to this newspaper, José López was musical director of the band of Firefighters from 2002 to 2007, as well as founder and musical director of the band of cornets and drums of the Estrella from 2006 to 2009. After Easter 2008, he was part of the founding team of the Jesús Cautivo band, of which he was musical director until last year, although he was still part of its board of directors. He also composed several processional marches, including 'Trinidad a tus pies', 'Reina del Gran Poder' and 'Lumen Fidei', the latter dedicated to the brotherhood of the Nuevo San Andrés neighborhood.

The Brotherhood of Jesús Cautivo has expressed in its official channels its "deep regret" for the death of what it considers the "alma mater" of its cornet and drum band.
